Summary

The North Bay Memorial Gardens Arena underwent a revitalization for the arrival of the new OHL franchise (the North Bay Battalion). The seating capacity was increased from approximately 4,000 to nearly 5,000, the ice surface was reconfigured to OHL standards including new boards, an upgraded ice surface with new refrigeration equipment, insulation, and a concrete pad.

Ten private boxes, a two-storey concourse to improve pedestrian flow around the arena, and a new two-level team dressing room and gym/lounge were added.

The main box office and entrance lobby were overhauled, and concession stands were revamped and fitted with new kitchen equipment. Areas of the arena on both the first and second floors were renovated and re-purposed for premier seating and a lounge. A new media centre and broadcast booth were built.

This project was very fast paced. Construction could not start until after the city of North Bay hosted the Central Junior A hockey finals, the Dudley Hewitt Cup in April, and then had to be substantially complete by mid-August for training camp. The remainder of the work had to be completed by October for the North Bay Battalion’s home opener game. This project was completed on schedule.
